An entry where I talk about a bunch of things because it's been so long since I updated
It's the end of week 4 of summer school.  Halfway done.  After this week there's only four more weeks.  (Or, in other words, about a month until school ends, 20 more days of school.)  So far I've been doing well in the class.  I've gotten B's on all my quizzes so far.  Though the only issue I have with the class is that it's so technological.  We take quizzes on-line and so that isn't really challenging.  So far we've had two quizzes that were entirely multiple choice and multiple choice tests are somewhat easy and so I just feel as if the class, other than going extremely fast, it just isn't testing me other than remembering things.

Though the oral part of the tests definitely test you on speaking and vocabulary so that's good.

I just have to get a C or better in the class for it to fulfill my language requirement so I'm not aiming for an A but rather a B.

Anyway, thought I'd make a post because I need to and I want to.

First, the 100 Thing Challenge?  I keep on forgetting about that.  (I should make it a point to do that at least once a week or else I'll just forget about it completely.)

So, the 3rd (out of 10) subject/topic that I love: medieval history.

Where I ramble about medieval history )

And now let's move onto TV show and movies.

1: Deadliest Catch--still watching the new episodes because the show is my favorite reality show ever and it's a very addictive show.

A couple of things I loved from last night's episode:

Jonathan with a shotgun going outside and shooting at the ice just to relieve tension and frustration.  That had me lol-ing.  It seems as if the Time Bandit is basically a college dorm or a frat house on the ocean.  The two Hillstrands never fail to cheer me up when they're on TV because they always seems so upbeat.

I also liked Edgar saving the Northwestern from the slack tank problem.  And then he and Jake A. went into the tank and all the water was coming at them from above.

2. Due South--started re-watching this show but I'm starting from season 3 because I was re-watching a Highlander episode from season 2 that had Callum Keith Rennie in it and that reminded me of Due South.

(Pretty soon I'll probably re-watch BSG, just to see CKR as Leoben, and maybe that one Supernatural episode he was in.)

But yes, Due South--I really forgot how awesome the show is.  Sure, sometimes it's cheesy, but it's one of those nostalgic shows I love.  It reminds me of my childhood and that's why I love it so much.

3. Highlander--like I said, I started re-watching this show (starting at season 2) and I forgot how awesome Richie was and I even liked Tessa better now that I'm older rather than when I was younger (I hated her when I was younger, for some reason IDEK).

4.  Little Shop of Horrors--I recently re-watched this film with my friend (who had never seen it before last Saturday).  It's a really great movie. It's a musical.  It's also sci-fi.  It's also a romance (in a way).  And a comedy movie.

And the movie is seriously awesome, guys.  I just can't even comprehend about the awesomeness of the film.

It's directed by Frank Oz, so that's awesome, but it also stars so many famous comedians: Rick Moranis, for one thing, Steve Martin (if you haven't seen the Dentist scene from the musical, I suggest you watch it), John Candy (love that guy), Bill Murray (love that guy even more and I love his scene with Steve Martin), and James Belushi.

It's like a reunion and gathering of people from SCTV and SNL.  I'm just so amused, for some reason, by the cast XD but then again, that's just me.

Clip from Little Shop of Horrors )

5. Other shows--I just finished watching the Farscape episode Crackers Don't Matter, which, thus far, is probably my favorite episode of season 2.  The first episode of season 2 was okay, the 2nd and 3rd episodes were just really bad, IMO, but Crackers Don't Matter was just better.  Which I was happy with.

I've also been watching Hex, this British TV show (that had been often compared to Buffy when it [Hex] first came out in the early 2000s.  Or sometime in that decade).  It's a good show, IMO.  But, then again, I just like anything British so I'm a tiny bit biased when I say that it's good.

But I do like the characters in the show.  Especially Thelma and Ella.

I'm also re-watching Red Dwarf (in preparation for series X when it airs in October.  I think it's October).

Red Dwarf trailer )

Also, there's Trust Us With Your Life, a new improv show.  It was made by the same guys who made the original Whose Line Is It Anyway and features some of the same improv guys from that show.  And it's really funny.  I like it.  It's not exactly Whose Line because nothing can ever really be Whose Line but it's just as good.  (I do miss the whole Ryan and Colin thing though.)

This past week I've started rollerskating again after having gone to Santa Monica Pier and seeing all these people skating around.  So I was inspired to dig out my old roller skates and start taking up skating again.

And then I figured why not skate with my dog because he's small and can keep up.

Um...it's fun.  The first day wasn't all that good but we've progressed.  Sometimes he pulls me along.  Especially through the dip in the road when I'm too afraid of going through the dip because I'm afraid of falling.  IDEK.

(The other day we came to a dip in the road and there was a stream of water going across the road and Finnegan is absolutely terrified of water.  He won't go on dewy grass in the morning, he hates baths, and he hates getting his paws wet in general when there's a puddle of water.  If he can, he usually jumps across the stream or puddle of water lol.  I've never seen such a dog who was scared of water.)

Anyway, so there was a tiny stream of water and as usual Finnegan slows down because he wants to jump over and I slow down because I don't want to fall by going too fast through the dip in the road.

We must have looked really funny.

I've had to give up yoga because I've been too busy with school to go but I'm hoping to go back again when school ends in August.  I've missed the whole meditative aspect of yoga.

Speaking of classes, the guitar class I've signed up for is going well.  I know how to play the Em, G, D, and A chords.  And I'm getting comfortable with strumming up and down using a pick.

Also this site offers free classes from universities.  I found the link through Geek and Sundry on Facebook (Felicia Day's company or whatever) and I figured why not sign up for the sci-fi class because I love being extremely busy and stressed out when I already have a stressful class.

(I hate not being busy, even if I do complain if I am too busy.  I'd rather be too busy than not busy enough.)

So, that's what I've been doing.  Hopefully next week I can post.  I'll have to remind myself to do it.

100 Things, Farscape, Deadliest Catch, and school
I've been really bad at updating my journal consistently.  Maybe I should do a 'write in the journal once a week', or else I'll just forget to write in it at all.

I've been reading my friends page--so that's not a problem at all.  It's just updating that I forget to do because there's nothing exciting going on in my life (at the moment)and there's only so many updates I can make about school (finals are next week on Monday and I have all three of them on one day, one right after the other, starting at 8 AM and going until 3:30 PM, so next Monday will be fun.  The only trouble I face is TV and Skyrim--Skyrim especially.  When I procrastinate, I do so by playing games). Speaking of finals, I had one of those school dreams about the finals where you miss one (in the dream) and then you're all stressed/sad/upset because you accidentally missed one and you think it's the end of the world (when it really isn't).

I hate those school anxiety dreams.  They're no fun at all and my dreams are the kind that actually seem real (and sometimes are in color).

Anyway, to continue on that '100 Things' challenge I'll do post #3 regarding the second subject I love (remember I'm doing the 100 Things in groups of 10 :/ I'm thinking of just making a separate entry and organizing posts I make from there or else I'll just confuse myself in the end regarding which group and which number I'm on).

#2 (out of 10) of Subjects/Topics I Love: Forensic Science

Forensic science--why it's so awesome (and why I love it so much) )

Now that I got that out of the way, let me talk a bit about Deadliest Catch,

Or just do the whole fannish 'squee' thing because the show?  Is just so awesome right now.

Deadliest Catch thoughts )

I'm continuing with Farscape.

Thoughts about Farscape )

It's week 10.  It's the last day of the week.  Finals are Monday and I'm just looking forward to a short break.  Before I go back to school.

Yeah, I'm taking Russia at UCLA.  I figured that getting the language out of the way as fast as possible is better for me.  Because as much as I want to just take a break this summer I have to finish the Russian language sequence.  It was either that, or Cal State Long Beach, and I was probably going to be bored this summer, so, yeah, UCLA.

Which, you know, they filmed some of Buffy season 4 at UCLA so yay about that.  I get to see UC Sunnydale XD

OTOH, freeway driving?  Not one of my strengths.  IDK why.  I just get sort of freaked out on the freeway, but I'm doing better lately.  I've been driving to the local mall on my own on the freeway and so I figure if I could that I could get used to driving to UCLA.

(I think a part of it is a fear of getting lost and a fear of getting killed on the freeway.  The combination of those fears make me just afraid to get on the freeway in general.)

UCLA is about 1 hour away from my house (an estimate made by Mapquest).  Usually there's rush hour in the afternoon.  And I'm going to be driving the freeway.

I'm just hoping it's less stressful than driving down 17th Street in the afternoon/evening.

Reflections. And random fun/reviews/pictures.
So, now that winter quarter of school is almost upon me (January 3), it's time to reflect on the past year.

The only major thing that ever happened was that I graduated (well, not really graduated)--moved up from community college to UCI.  And declared my majors to be anthropology and European Studies (with which I was hit by the question from many people, 'And what will you do with those?'  And with which I'm still answering with, '*shrug* IDK.  Something interesting?'  But really, I will find out what I can do with those majors and when I do then I'll actually have an answer.  For now, I'm majoring in what I want to major in because I only have one chance to go through UCI and I really don't want to have any regrets at the end).

My friend started this 'club'/event where we meet up and watch films and I've watched a ton of interesting films that way.  They aren't new (Citizan Kane, The Third Man, The Great Dictator, for example) but they were interesting and probably by far the most interesting films (overall and as a group) that I've seen than any of the films I've seen in theaters in 2010 (with the exception of Toy Story 3 and Inception.  And Back to the Future-okay, I saw that in theaters, but it wasn't new.  I got a shiny poster from it but it wasn't new but it was probably better than any films I saw in 2010).

I also resurrected a costume.  For Halloween.  Of which I haven't posted any pictures but I really think I should.

Halloween costume pictures )

Besides rediscovering old fandoms I used to love, I discovered new ones.

One of them was Life on Mars.  And from there, in terms of TV viewing, I went strictly British TV.  From Life on Mars I discovered Ashes to Ashes.  And then Skins.  (Of which I watched some but I really got into Skins for some reason after I found LoM.)  Misfits (just started watching it), Top Gear (which owns my life, basically, now), Sherlock, Hustle (and now every time I see Robert Vaughn I don't think, 'Oh, Napoleon Solo' (his character in Man From Uncle), I think, 'Oh, Albert from Hustle!').  I got really into the Doctor Who fandom with the introduction of 11.  It's like it seems every fan has a favorite version of the doctor.  Since I haven't seen any of the episodes of Doctors 1-8, I've seen all of 9, barely any 10 (but I'm working on that.  Slowly), but I have seen all of 11, then my preference is for 11.

Farscape--finally got around to watching it.  And I've discovered it takes a while to get good.  Like, half way through the first season it started getting interesting.  But now I'm hoping I can finish watching the entirety of the show this year.

Inception-OMG this movie really owned my life in 2010.  Wow did it ever own my life.  If there were action figures I probably would've bought them but I didn't.  Because there aren't any.  And the fact that I checked to see if there were and that there weren't slightly disappointed me.

I didn't really watch any new TV shows this fall.  I think I dropped NCIS: Los Angeles (catching up with 14 episodes seems daunting to me).  I watched Psych.

Which brings me to my next point, which is about Psych.  Well, sort of, but not really.

Very very slight Psych spoilers. In fact, it's not really an important or major spoiler. )

Let's see, what else...

I turned 22.  And it rained during the day.  And the week.  In fact, there was more rain this year than last year.  I think.

I made more icons.  Granted, some of them were for land comm challenges, but I rediscovered my passion in making icons.  Now I want to do a sort of 'an icon per day' thing where I make one icon per day (obvious, I know, I'm so original with my challenge titles...) because IDK it sounds fun?  I doubt I can keep up with it but I can try.

I also applied for a study abroad program in Cambridge for this summer and, while I'm scared, I know I need to do it because, well, I need to do it.  No, not need.  I want to do it.  It'll be scary.  But I know I'll have fun.

I also started taking the bus and discovered how awesome it was.  I got a lot of reading (not for school) done on the bus.  And some writing during NaNoWriMo.

My figurine collection grew.  Significantly.

Figurine collection picture )

I can't think of anything else to write about.  Except that I saw an awesome mystery film last night.  It's Korean.  And not available on DVD (except for bootleg copies).  But it was awesome.  As in Sherlock awesome.  You know, the two buddies solving a mystery together sort of mystery film.  It's called Private Eye.  Here's its IMDB page.  My friend happened to bring the bootleg DVD with him last night and we watched it.

So happy new year.  I hope everyone has an awesome 2011.

(Also, had an amazing time with friends last night counting down to the new year.  Stayed up until midnight, did the whole noisemaker to celebrate the new year thing.  It was fun.)

Hopefully everyone had a happy/safe Halloween.

I went to a friend's house for a party, and I dressed up as a Blues Brothers again (that was my 2006 senior munch/Halloween outfit.  SInce then I had to get new black pants because of all the weight I lost between then and now, which, you know, it's good, but then clothes in the past tend to be just a little bigger for me.  Such as the black jacket and white shirt for the costume--they were just a tiny bit on the big side but then again I don't like shirts to be strangling me so the clothes being big were just fine.  I also got new sunglasses that are much better than my old ones).

I hung out with friends, talked to some, watched The Twilight Zone (two episodes: the Talking Tina one and The Howling Man), Are You Afraid of the Dark? (I am not embarrassed to say that I own the first five seasons of this on DVD.  Saw it on eBay some years back and impulsively bought it because it was such an important part to my childhood.  Although the fact that the disc with the Ghastly Grinner episode on it is scratched saddens me greatly, as that episode scares me some and I don't really want a sratched disc, but oh well)(we watched The Tale of the Dead Man's Float and the Night Shift episode), and an anime involving vampires and Halloween.

It was fun.

I also watched Hocus Pocus that day (on my own) because it's such a Halloween type movie (even though when it was released it apparently came out in July.  Yes, I still wonder why that was in the first place) and, like The Muppet Christmas Carol needs to be watched at Christmas, Hocus Pocus needs to be watched on Halloween.

Anyway, school has been keeping me extremely busy.  Way more busy than I want.  Of course, last semester at community college I was taking an online class and a couple easy classes so that seems, looking back, easy compared to now.

Just got finished with my last midterm (thank God) and now I have some time to kill, which I'll do it by relaxing.  And then I'll do homework and reading for class tomorrow.

Because I'm doing NaNoWriMo this month and my goal is to write, hmm, IDK, 80,000 words maybe?  I'm trying to go beyond the 50,000, at least.  And yesterday I wrote 3222 (okay, 3216, going by NaNoWriMo's word count verifier, but it says 3222 on my Word Document program) and I have a good feeling that I can actually write 3000 words today.

Also, it sort of taught me that outlines are good.  And that I should do it more often for other stories.

But yes, I probably won't be around during much of November and when I do it'll probably be a post of me freaking out over school/NaNoWriMo/life in general.

Also, Farscape.  My thoughts on Farscape  )

There's a strike going on.  (I know strike isn't the right word...one of those marches.  Protest, that's it!

My brain is really working today *sarcasm*)

yes, there's a protest going on, don't know what it's about, but protests going on makes me actually feel more like I'm at UCI.  Because protests didn't really happen at community college a whole lot.

My TV shows for fall have seriously narrowed down.  To Castle, HIMYM, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Defenders, and Supernatural.  And when the USA shows comes back on, Psych, White Collar, and Covert Affairs.

Yes, I have given up watching a lot of shows.  Because a: I don't have the time to play catch-up and b: some I fell out of interest with.

Anyway, Supernatural.

Anyway, this brings me to a point: icons.

I'm making a ton of icons for this land challenge (which is due October 25 and I'm really behind) and most of them are Farscape and I know this is primarily a fannish journal of mine but I'm going to use it for any icons/fanfiction/etc. I do for challenges.

(Though I am thinking of IDK starting a personal icon journal?  Not that anyone really likes my icons and/or wants to use them as their own but it's just a personal idea for me...)

although my love for making icons will falter by the time I'm finished with the challenge icons.  There's only so much I can make before I get tired of making them.

Just warning anyone who reads this that a ton of icons will be posted in the near future.

I can't think of anything else to talk about.  School's going okay (I'm busy, as in extremely).  The bus ride is fun (because I get a lot of reading done).  Different things are going on in my life and I sort of have to sit and make a list of what I absolutely need to do versus what I want to do but I don't really need to do at that moment.  Tests are coming up that I should study for.

So I'm sort of busy.

(Also that's the reason I dropped at least the majority of the TV shows I said I'd watch this fall.)
