An entry where I talk about a bunch of things because it's been so long since I updated
It's the end of week 4 of summer school.  Halfway done.  After this week there's only four more weeks.  (Or, in other words, about a month until school ends, 20 more days of school.)  So far I've been doing well in the class.  I've gotten B's on all my quizzes so far.  Though the only issue I have with the class is that it's so technological.  We take quizzes on-line and so that isn't really challenging.  So far we've had two quizzes that were entirely multiple choice and multiple choice tests are somewhat easy and so I just feel as if the class, other than going extremely fast, it just isn't testing me other than remembering things.

Though the oral part of the tests definitely test you on speaking and vocabulary so that's good.

I just have to get a C or better in the class for it to fulfill my language requirement so I'm not aiming for an A but rather a B.

Anyway, thought I'd make a post because I need to and I want to.

First, the 100 Thing Challenge?  I keep on forgetting about that.  (I should make it a point to do that at least once a week or else I'll just forget about it completely.)

So, the 3rd (out of 10) subject/topic that I love: medieval history.

Where I ramble about medieval history )

And now let's move onto TV show and movies.

1: Deadliest Catch--still watching the new episodes because the show is my favorite reality show ever and it's a very addictive show.

A couple of things I loved from last night's episode:

Jonathan with a shotgun going outside and shooting at the ice just to relieve tension and frustration.  That had me lol-ing.  It seems as if the Time Bandit is basically a college dorm or a frat house on the ocean.  The two Hillstrands never fail to cheer me up when they're on TV because they always seems so upbeat.

I also liked Edgar saving the Northwestern from the slack tank problem.  And then he and Jake A. went into the tank and all the water was coming at them from above.

2. Due South--started re-watching this show but I'm starting from season 3 because I was re-watching a Highlander episode from season 2 that had Callum Keith Rennie in it and that reminded me of Due South.

(Pretty soon I'll probably re-watch BSG, just to see CKR as Leoben, and maybe that one Supernatural episode he was in.)

But yes, Due South--I really forgot how awesome the show is.  Sure, sometimes it's cheesy, but it's one of those nostalgic shows I love.  It reminds me of my childhood and that's why I love it so much.

3. Highlander--like I said, I started re-watching this show (starting at season 2) and I forgot how awesome Richie was and I even liked Tessa better now that I'm older rather than when I was younger (I hated her when I was younger, for some reason IDEK).

4.  Little Shop of Horrors--I recently re-watched this film with my friend (who had never seen it before last Saturday).  It's a really great movie. It's a musical.  It's also sci-fi.  It's also a romance (in a way).  And a comedy movie.

And the movie is seriously awesome, guys.  I just can't even comprehend about the awesomeness of the film.

It's directed by Frank Oz, so that's awesome, but it also stars so many famous comedians: Rick Moranis, for one thing, Steve Martin (if you haven't seen the Dentist scene from the musical, I suggest you watch it), John Candy (love that guy), Bill Murray (love that guy even more and I love his scene with Steve Martin), and James Belushi.

It's like a reunion and gathering of people from SCTV and SNL.  I'm just so amused, for some reason, by the cast XD but then again, that's just me.

Clip from Little Shop of Horrors )

5. Other shows--I just finished watching the Farscape episode Crackers Don't Matter, which, thus far, is probably my favorite episode of season 2.  The first episode of season 2 was okay, the 2nd and 3rd episodes were just really bad, IMO, but Crackers Don't Matter was just better.  Which I was happy with.

I've also been watching Hex, this British TV show (that had been often compared to Buffy when it [Hex] first came out in the early 2000s.  Or sometime in that decade).  It's a good show, IMO.  But, then again, I just like anything British so I'm a tiny bit biased when I say that it's good.

But I do like the characters in the show.  Especially Thelma and Ella.

I'm also re-watching Red Dwarf (in preparation for series X when it airs in October.  I think it's October).

Red Dwarf trailer )

Also, there's Trust Us With Your Life, a new improv show.  It was made by the same guys who made the original Whose Line Is It Anyway and features some of the same improv guys from that show.  And it's really funny.  I like it.  It's not exactly Whose Line because nothing can ever really be Whose Line but it's just as good.  (I do miss the whole Ryan and Colin thing though.)

This past week I've started rollerskating again after having gone to Santa Monica Pier and seeing all these people skating around.  So I was inspired to dig out my old roller skates and start taking up skating again.

And then I figured why not skate with my dog because he's small and can keep up.

Um...it's fun.  The first day wasn't all that good but we've progressed.  Sometimes he pulls me along.  Especially through the dip in the road when I'm too afraid of going through the dip because I'm afraid of falling.  IDEK.

(The other day we came to a dip in the road and there was a stream of water going across the road and Finnegan is absolutely terrified of water.  He won't go on dewy grass in the morning, he hates baths, and he hates getting his paws wet in general when there's a puddle of water.  If he can, he usually jumps across the stream or puddle of water lol.  I've never seen such a dog who was scared of water.)

Anyway, so there was a tiny stream of water and as usual Finnegan slows down because he wants to jump over and I slow down because I don't want to fall by going too fast through the dip in the road.

We must have looked really funny.

I've had to give up yoga because I've been too busy with school to go but I'm hoping to go back again when school ends in August.  I've missed the whole meditative aspect of yoga.

Speaking of classes, the guitar class I've signed up for is going well.  I know how to play the Em, G, D, and A chords.  And I'm getting comfortable with strumming up and down using a pick.

Also this site offers free classes from universities.  I found the link through Geek and Sundry on Facebook (Felicia Day's company or whatever) and I figured why not sign up for the sci-fi class because I love being extremely busy and stressed out when I already have a stressful class.

(I hate not being busy, even if I do complain if I am too busy.  I'd rather be too busy than not busy enough.)

So, that's what I've been doing.  Hopefully next week I can post.  I'll have to remind myself to do it.

100 Things, Farscape, Deadliest Catch, and school
I've been really bad at updating my journal consistently.  Maybe I should do a 'write in the journal once a week', or else I'll just forget to write in it at all.

I've been reading my friends page--so that's not a problem at all.  It's just updating that I forget to do because there's nothing exciting going on in my life (at the moment)and there's only so many updates I can make about school (finals are next week on Monday and I have all three of them on one day, one right after the other, starting at 8 AM and going until 3:30 PM, so next Monday will be fun.  The only trouble I face is TV and Skyrim--Skyrim especially.  When I procrastinate, I do so by playing games). Speaking of finals, I had one of those school dreams about the finals where you miss one (in the dream) and then you're all stressed/sad/upset because you accidentally missed one and you think it's the end of the world (when it really isn't).

I hate those school anxiety dreams.  They're no fun at all and my dreams are the kind that actually seem real (and sometimes are in color).

Anyway, to continue on that '100 Things' challenge I'll do post #3 regarding the second subject I love (remember I'm doing the 100 Things in groups of 10 :/ I'm thinking of just making a separate entry and organizing posts I make from there or else I'll just confuse myself in the end regarding which group and which number I'm on).

#2 (out of 10) of Subjects/Topics I Love: Forensic Science

Forensic science--why it's so awesome (and why I love it so much) )

Now that I got that out of the way, let me talk a bit about Deadliest Catch,

Or just do the whole fannish 'squee' thing because the show?  Is just so awesome right now.

Deadliest Catch thoughts )

I'm continuing with Farscape.

Thoughts about Farscape )

It's week 10.  It's the last day of the week.  Finals are Monday and I'm just looking forward to a short break.  Before I go back to school.

Yeah, I'm taking Russia at UCLA.  I figured that getting the language out of the way as fast as possible is better for me.  Because as much as I want to just take a break this summer I have to finish the Russian language sequence.  It was either that, or Cal State Long Beach, and I was probably going to be bored this summer, so, yeah, UCLA.

Which, you know, they filmed some of Buffy season 4 at UCLA so yay about that.  I get to see UC Sunnydale XD

OTOH, freeway driving?  Not one of my strengths.  IDK why.  I just get sort of freaked out on the freeway, but I'm doing better lately.  I've been driving to the local mall on my own on the freeway and so I figure if I could that I could get used to driving to UCLA.

(I think a part of it is a fear of getting lost and a fear of getting killed on the freeway.  The combination of those fears make me just afraid to get on the freeway in general.)

UCLA is about 1 hour away from my house (an estimate made by Mapquest).  Usually there's rush hour in the afternoon.  And I'm going to be driving the freeway.

I'm just hoping it's less stressful than driving down 17th Street in the afternoon/evening.

A lot has happened since I last posted an entry.  Kind of.

One: I tried archery.  I was just curious about it (um...from having seen The Avengers, TBH) and it was actually really fun.  Seriously.  I took a beginner's class at this place and I almost got a bull's eye at one point.  I'm thinking of going back, maybe when school is over, and shooting some more arrows, because it's a seriously fun and awesome sport to do.

It's also therapeutic, in a strange way.  Not 'yoga' therapeutic but therapeutic all the same.

Two: I tried tai chi (at the yoga studio I said I signed up to take classes at).  It was very awesome.  And totally not like yoga at all and something that I want to try again.  I was hoping to go this last Saturday but I had a cold and was feeling all crappy (and all I wanted to do was read Avengers graphic novels and X-Men) and I just wasn't up to going to tai chi.  But I'm hoping to go this upcoming Saturday.  (I'm also feeling better.  I think there's a bug going around at school making people have colds and things and I just happened to get it over the weekend.)

Speaking of The Avengers, that movie has probably taken over my life, the same way Inception had.

And Clint/Coulson?  My new favorite pairing.  Seriously.  It's like when I discovered Arthur/Eames and I bookmarked all this fanfiction about them and now I'm bookmarking all the fanfiction regarding Clint/Coulson.

And the funny thing is I don't even know how I got obsessed with them.  I think it was the combination of me reading lots of fanfiction about them and being curious about them that made me fall in love with the ship.

Also, it has sort of inspired me to be creative again--I made a desktop wallpaper last night to honor the awesomeness that is Clint/Coulson. As well as because there was a lack of wallpaper in the world that honored them and I figured why not make my own.

I'm watching Kolchak: The Night Stalker for the first time and it's really good so far.  Unlike Jim Backus whom I only saw as Mr. Thurston Howell III even in Rebel Without a Cause (that film is hard to take seriously when he's in it, despite James Dean also starring in it), I can actually take Darrin McGavin seriously in Kolchak.  He totally owns the role.  (And I don't see him as the father from A Christmas Story.)  I like the whole supernatural/paranormal angle it has.  I like urban fantasy so the show is just totally right up my alley to watch.

Anyway, I just realized I still need to do post #2 of the whole '100 Things I Love' which, you know, I forgot because these past few weeks I've just been busy with life.

Anyway, for post #2 I'm going to change it up and talk about one of my favorite bands.

Which, if anyone doesn't know, is Jethro Tull.

I could probably go on forever as to why Jethro Tull is one of my favorite bands, but I'm just going to list six reasons why.

6 reasons why Jethro Tull is my favorite band )

In other news, I have pulled out this old typewriter from the closet.  It used to be my parents', but they stopped using it, and so I was all, 'Hey, I'll take that!' because I like old/antique things (one of my wishes is to have a juke box, but considering how big they are, and how much room I have in my room, which isn't a lot, then I won't get one.  Also, because, you know, they don't seem to be sold a lot in antique stores nowadays.  The only working juke box I know is at this drugstore and soda fountain place near me where they actually filmed this Tom Hanks movie at one time in the past.  And the place actually looks like a '50's diner, like Back to the Future style, with a working juke box and everything.  And malted milk shakes).

Anyway, I found a place for the typewriter to live in my room.  Where it shall always reside and then I'll probably use it when I feel the need to be all 'author-ly'.  Which doesn't happen often because my muse has gone away for the moment, but I'm hoping it'll return around November when I do NaNoWriMo.

The Cabin in the Woods, The West Wing, other shows, and 1/100 Things I Love
I can't believe I still haven't made a post about The Cabin in the Woods yet.  I've meant to in the past but I had to post the Big Bang for [info]film_land and I'm doing that 100 things challenge, so I just haven't gotten around to posting my review (and thoughts) about The Cabin in the Woods.

My thoughts on The Cabin in the Woods )

I'm watching The West Wing again.  The last time I properly watched it was last year so I think this whole obsession thing is coming back around (I like to think of it as 'circular obsession'.  Which, if that's the case, one of these days I'll be obsessed with other shows I haven't been obsessed with in years).  I decided to skip re-watching seasons 1 and 2 and just started watching season 3 again.  It's interesting so far.  Not as good as seasons 1 and 2 and there's a lack of Sam and Josh scenes (if it's not clear by now, I like both Sam and Josh, and I ship them like crazy).

West Wing fannish stuff )

I've been catching up with Psych and Eureka these past couple of days, and I've also been trying to watch The Prisoner (my friend is on a Prisoner-high at the moment and all her talks of the Prisoner makes me slightly desperate to finish it, it's only 17 episodes, but I'm on a West Wing high atm so all I want to do is watch The West Wing).

I'm also watching Mad Men again.  I'm still on season 2.  I forgot how good it was.

Anyway, let's just get onto the first post of the 100 things.

I'll start with favorite topics/subjects and do 10 of those and then I'll move onto other things.  Also, I'm going to include pictures with the things I love, just because I feel like it.  Also, it's fun.

Oh, and I apologize for digressing terrible in this entry.  My mind is just all over the place today and I tend to digress when I want to talk about something I know I'll probably forget to talk about in the future.

The first subject/topic that I love is dinosaurs.

Sorry if I digress a lot. But I do. And there's a picture. )

Oh, I recently made a West Wing icon.

100 Things--I'm doing this

{Take the 100 Things challenge!}

I recently saw this on my flist a couple days back and I was all, 'OMG I have to do this!' since 1: I like making lists and 2: it seems interesting and 3: I'm always down for a challenge.

And I say I like making lists but then I fail at actually what list to do. So the list I'll be doing is just 100 Things I Love, broken down into 10 groups (shows, movies, books, characters, etc) because I want to do lists about everything I love but I'll just start small. Because I don't think I have 100 shows that I love and I doubt I've seen 100 TV shows.
