Some updates
So I've finally got a part time job.  It's at Disneyland and I'll be working in the wardrobe department (or entertainment costuming.  I think there's two names for the same job.  Basically, whatever it's called, I'll be helping with the costumes backstage.  I'll be cleaning some costumes, I think.  Really, what I know so far is that I'll be helping with the costumes.

So I won't have to be in the costume.

Which is a good thing, because I can't even begin to imagine being in a costume).

There's a couple good things about working at Disneyland: I can get into the park for free.  Which is awesome, because ever since graduating I wanted to go to Disneyland to celebrate and now I can!  Also, I can get 40% off merchandise right now (holiday special), every cast member gets a holiday package, which includes dining discounts, coupons for free popcorn and free drinks, three tickets that can be used to bring in family/friends, an ornament...

There's this store called Company D, which sells disused Disney merchandise.  They had an alarm clock there--the original price was $31.  It was 50% off (everything is) and so I got it for $15.

I had orientation over the weekend, which involved going backstage, and sitting in classrooms, and I was getting paid for it :D my actual training starts Friday, but so far it's going pretty good.  I have the name tag--the white one--and it has my name on it, and did I mention that I can get into Disneyland for free whenever I want to?  And California Adventure?  This means I can go to Carsland whenever I want.  This means I can ride the Haunted Mansion anytime I want.

And I believe parking is also free :D

So, yes, that's about the only major life event that's happened.  Oh, and I finally picked up my diplomas.  I need to get really good frames for them to show them off.  But I picked up two--because I majored in two different schools.

Also, I finally saw a live production of Rocky Horror Picture Show.  The audience participation was insane and I had a lot of fun seeing it being performed.

Other than that, not a lot has been going on in my life that warranted me doing an update.

I'm re-watching Buffy again (which I don't know how that happened.  In fact, I stopped watching Hogan's Heroes in the middle of season 5 and I don't know why that happened either--I go through so many fandom obsessions it's not even silly).  I'm on season 3 at the moment, which is probably my favorite season, next to season 6.  I really forgot how good the show actually is, now that I'm re-watching it.  I can't wait to get to Angel :D only because there's Doyle :D

I'm also reading a ton of books.  Brighton Rock by Graham Greene, I'm re-reading Catcher in the Rye and I've started reading Dresden Files: Summer Knight again.  I also re-read A Separate Peace, which I had read back in high school.  I really liked it better this time around--maybe I just had issues with analyzing it in high school and that's what made me hate the book when I was younger.  (Most of the books I read for non-English honors in high school usually turned out to be my favorite books.  I think English honors over-analyzed books to the point where the books weren't fun for me to read.  Although, TBH, I just have issues with people analyzing books sometimes.  Except, strangely enough, not films.  I don't know why that is.)

I'm doing NaNoWriMo again this year and I'm determined to reach 50,000 words.  Last year I didn't make it that far, because I was busy with school, and the year before that I just had no motivation, so I'm determined to motivate myself enough to the point where I actually write 50,000 words.  I'm hoping it works out--I'm up to nearly 17,000.  I'm hoping that training won't tire me out so much that I won't be able to write.  Luckily I wrote enough for the first three days so I didn't have to write all that much this past weekend (the orientation tired me out as well).

UCLA and Buffy
I had a plan to re-watch the first episode of Buffy season 4 whilst going to UCLA in an attempt to see if I couldn't spot places they used for the episode.

Which, you know, I didn't ever get around to doing because I was so busy but now I'm re-watching it (I'm using that term loosely--I may fast forward through the episode because I've already seen it so many times and I just want to see the parts of UCLA they've used).

So far I've spotted the main area of UCLA, a corner of Ackerman Union, Bruin walk (I think that's what it was called), the long walk up to Powell Library, the interior of Powell Library (which looks even more amazing in person), and the exterior of Royce Hall (which was right across from Powell Library).  I'm amused that the large bear statue was hidden from view by a construction screen (otherwise it would have been seen).  Which, IDK, maybe that was the point: to hide it?

I just find it amusing to just watch it and be all like, 'Hey, I walked those steps before!  I've walked in the library before!' (Had to anyway, because the class had been held on the third floor of the library).

So, yeah, I'm amused XD

the only thing UCI has going for it is that the exteriror of the library was used in the film Poltergeist in a quick, single shot, and in this one Planet of the Apes film all these apes ran around the social science area.

"I resent that!" also, a meme
I told [livejournal.com profile] dance_the_dance I wanted to play and she gave me Firefly, Buffy, and Angel.

Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. Then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

Firefly )

Buffy )

Angel )

It's almost spring break :D yay.  Seriously happy at the moment.  Of course, it's not helping me in getting anything related to school accomplished this week.  I've been really lazy--I just don't feel like doing anything related to school.

Which will make getting anything done--such as essays--hard to do.

Yeah, I'll really need to motivate myself to actually accomplish things related to classes this week and next week.  For example, I've got a quiz tomorrow in Russian and I need to study.  I just don't feel like doing it.

I'm still watching Whose Line and I've got some new clips to share

Clips from Whose Line )

The last episode of Psych was really good.

(Also, maybe it's just me, but I'm annoyed with Shawn as a character when he's written by Steve Franks.  It seems as if all the latest Steve Franks written episodes has Shawn being really highly annoying.  It's like I go from finding the character really annoying to tolerating and liking him.  But, like I said, maybe it's just me.)

Spoilers for the recent Psych episode )

I can't believe the current season of Being Human will almost be over 0_0 I keep on forgetting that the season only has eight episodes in it.  It doesn't seem as if it's half-way done.  Maybe it's because I'm enjoying it so much.

But, yeah, I'll be sad when the season ends.  The last episode of Top Gear season 18 aired this past Sunday (and I'm thinking of actually watching season 17, which I still haven't seen yet).  And the new Dirk Gently series is only three episodes long and the second episode of that recently aired.

While I'm a big fan of the short season format of TV shows as opposed to 22-24 episodes in a season, it sucks when all the shows I watch will be basically ending in a week or so.  I don't watch many TV shows so the few that I do enjoy watching and that I actually want to watch are special to me (for some reason, within these past two years, I've gone from watching as many shows as I could just to see if I could do it to only watching ones that I feel like watching.  Or maybe this started long before then.  Either way, I don't watch all that much TV, and when I do it's either usually on DVD or on my computer.  I haven't turned on my TV in months, and my mom just canceled the premium HBO channels because no one in the family watches shows on that).

Maybe I'll catch up on shows on DVD when all the current shows end.  Because remember that Epic Buffy Re-watch I started last year?  I haven't finished it yet.  I'm in the middle of season 2.  And I've been wanting to re-watch Firefly for some time now, and Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes.  And I've been entertaining the idea of re-watching Battlestar Galactica, and I really want to continue watching Farscape (I finished season 1 sometime last year.  For some odd reason I'm not getting totally addicted to that show even though I like it.  As such, I'm not all that interested in watching the show super fast).

So, yes, that's probably what I'll be watching when Dirk Gently and Being Human ends.  I think I've fallen out of the Merlin fandom--I still haven't finished season 4 and I've got no interest in watching it anymore.  Which makes me sad--I used to enjoy the show.  But the pendulum will probably swing back around in the future where I'll want to watch it.  It's just at this moment I have no interest in watching it.

So, yeah, this was a really long post -_- guess I'll go study for the Russian quiz.  Or watch Whose Line.  I can procrastinate and do something productive at the same time.

I find it sort of silly that the school district my parents teach at are now having a week off for Thanksgiving break when last year they didn't have that at all.

UCI fails in that regard.  We still have school for three days this week.

Oh well.  I think that's mostly because the quarter didn't start until late September so we have to have more days of school to make up for the late start.

Anyway, the other day I finished the big bang challenge for TVRealm (a land comm I'm in) and I'm still in the habit of posting challenges in my journal doing the 'date out of order' so it won't show up on the friend's list.  (Though I'm thinking of changing that.  IDK.  I'm just so hesitant to even share anything I make nowadays.)

But anyway, you can find fanmixes, picspams, drabbles, and icons here,  I'm really proud of how a few of the icons turned out.  I think I'm getting used to masking and using various textures on PSP.  Which, you know, considering how I just discovered how to do masking a few months ago (a fail on my part--I've had my PSP since, IDK, when I was in high school and I'm still learning new stuff I can do with pictures).

I won't bore you with details of masking and layers and textures and icon talk.

For my epic Buffy re-watch, I decided to finish my re-watch of season 1 that I started back in September and that I had stopped due to school.  I'm almost finished re-watching the season.  There are some episodes that's been way too long since I last saw it before I re-watched it.  Such as The Pack and I Robot, You Jane.  Before the season 1 re-watch, I had forgotten when I had last watched those episodes.  (And I actually forgot the last time I actually sat down to watch Buffy.  That was a couple years ago, IIRC.  Re-watching the show is definitely renewing my interest in the fandom, albeit slightly.)

I think my favorite episode from season 1 and the one that feels most definitely Buffy and not at all cheesy is The Puppet Show.  That's probably the best episode of the season, besides for Angel, of course.

Also, I have no idea why I called it my epic Buffy re-watch.  But it's called that now.  I think after I finish my epic Buffy re-watch, I'll do an epic Angel re-watch and an epic Firefly re-watch and then I'll get around to actually finishing watching Farscape and Man From U.N.C.L.E.

I just want to get all this re-watching of TV shows out of the way first.

Buffy and NaNoWriMo
So this past week I re-watched Buffy season 6.  I actually started with Once More, With Feeling because I had read on Whedonesque about it being ten years old on November 6 (okay, I have no other way to word this so I'm just going to go with the age thing even though it's an episode--the whole general point was that it had aired ten years ago, on November 6, though, and I wanted to watch it).

And then I thought, 'Dude, I forgot how amazing this show was.  I can't just stop at Once More, With Feeling.  That's too awkward.  I need to re-watch the entire season.'

So I did.

Another nostalgic factor that the season has is that it was the first season of Buffy I ever watched.  Mostly because of Spike, but it did introduce me to Joss Whedon and then from there to Firefly and, well, then I got my friends hooked on all three shows (Buffy, Angel, and Firefly).

Anyway, I'm finished with season 6 and I'm debating on whether or not to continue with my re-watch of season 1 (which I started in September and then had to stop because school started) or if I should just watch whatever season I feel like watching, which would probably be either season 2 or season 7.  I can't decide.  I'm thinking season 7.  Because I also want to re-watch Angel season 5.

I also have this need to re-watch Supernatural (seasons 1 and 2).  I re-watched the pilot a couple months back and forgot how amazing it was as well.  Maybe I'll do that over winter break.

One thing that re-watching Buffy has done for me is that it's sort of dimmed my Red Dwarf obsession, which is a good thing, I guess?  I think I just need some time away from Red Dwarf because I've been too obsessed with it so much that I was making myself annoyed with my obsession.  That usually happens to me a lot.  The whole 'me obsessing over something so much even I get tired of it' thing.

My NaNoWriMo story is going great so far.  I've been trying to keep up the word count lately because I really slacked off earlier this month.  I'm trying to aim for 70,000 words instead of 50,000 and, because of my slacking off earlier, I have to write at least 3000 words every day.  Also I'm working from a semi-outline of my story.  It was going to be an actual outline but I slacked off on finishing the outline so I only have partial scenes/parts of my novel that I want to write, but if I know where I'm going and if I know what I want to happen in my story then that's all good to me.

The only time I ever winged it without an outline was when a couple years back I did a Psych/Supernatural/Due South/Pushing Diasies/Dead Like Me fanfiction for NaNoWriMo, and even with that I think I was sort of knew where I wanted it to go while, at the same time, not really caring if it turned out differently because I was writing that more for fun than anything else.  I've never shown it to anyone else, though and I doubt that I'll ever post it either to here or fanfiction.net.  If I ever did, I would have to make some major edits to it.

School's going well.  I just registered for classes for next quarter, actually.  I'll be taking Russian 1B, European Studies 101A, art history (medieval sculptures--it's for my medieval Europe emphasis), and an anthropology class.  I would take more but all those classes come out t0 17 units and I believe the highest number of units one can take here at UCI is 20.  Still, looking forward to next quarter.  The European Studies 101A will be taught by the same teacher I had two other history classes with and I think she specializes in the medieval history field.

There should be a JossTV station. Joss Television, where Buffy, Angel, and Firefly are shown 24/7, and where we can have interesting and intellectual conversations on the morals of Buffy and Angel by phone. Sign up for the newsletter, and we can bring you exciting Joss news. JossTV: where anything can happen, especially seeing the Firefly movie Serneity a month before it comes out in theaters.

(okay, so the last statement probably can't happen, or, in fact, the whole idea, but it can happen. Let's write to Dish satellite, people, and make it bring us JossTV!)

Illyria vs. Dark Willow
Okay, another update from me...

Currently I'm taking a break from Highlander to reflect on past shows...like Bufffy and Angel...

also, today at lunch I had an interesting conversation with my brother's friends: Who would win: Batman or Superman?

Who would win: Superman or Buffy? Or if you want you can always substitute Buffy with, say, 'Buffy, Faith, and all the Potentials...'

Ooh!!!! How about this: Superman or Dark Willow?? Who would win?? Personally, I think Dark Willow, but that's just because she's, like, Dark...and she's Willow, and when she's angry at Warren for killing Tara, she gets angry...

Illyria or Dark Willow? That's the question for today.

I think Illyria and Dark Willow could be friends, actually...considering how Illyria sort of 'threw' Angel out of the Wolfram and Hart window from the whatever floor, and Dark Willow...well, she did kill Rack, and before I thought Rack was insanely strong...but Giles then came and saved the day!!...sort of...Xander did, actually...

(okay, way too obsessed with Buffy...but it's okay to be obsessed, right??? right???)

BTW, I'm tracking down all the kids who go to Foothill, and I just found Rachel, who's in my Latin class and English class...gonna go friend her now...and hope that she's not weirded out by my great obsession with Buffy/Angel/Firefly, which, I think, weirds some people out, like if you make a friend with someone and talk Buffy/Angel constantly that would make some people think that you are weird sort of, and they won't think that much of you anymore...

The new episode of Ghost Hunters was great, by the way...(it's on the Sci-Fi channel.) I didn't really watch much of Beyond Belief, though...getting too boring (unless...if and when the Stan Kirsch episode does air, then will see that.)

Want Serenity to come out...want... 162 days to go until April 22, 2005. Can't wait.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 7 out on the 16. Mark your calendars(?) and do not forget that date!! '

I need to run off to go watch The West Wing now (it promises huge amounts of Rob Lowe.)

Also, am now liking the movie the Italian Job. Seth Green is so...Sethy in the movie...and reminds me weirdly of Oz, althought that could be denial that Oz left Willow...although am happy with Willow/Tara, not so much Willow/Kennedy, however...do like Buffy/Angel and Buffy/Spike thought. I'm a Bangel and Spuffy person.

So, anyway, I guess every morning Mond-Frid they show Angel on TNT and Buffy on FX...at 5 in the morning.

(Who's the lucky one now?? Since they decided to take away Highlander on Spike, I've been Highlander deprived, but now they're showing Angel and Buffy in the morning (not on the same network thought) so now I get to get Angel and Buffy in the morning, which, overall, makes the rest of my day automatically good.)

Cool Buffy site in my opinion

But then again, that's my opinion. Usually I like when people delve further into a certain subject and it brings up intellectual conversations.

But that's just me :) sometimes I like to think deeply about something.

Sorry for not updating in a week or so...high school is difficult...and kind of hard...and I kind of hate it...plus, it's been keeping me busy, that along with me watching the whole first season of Highlander and the whole first season of Angel.

And my next door neighbors decided to throw a shindig at this time of night (shindig=shin'dig' n. informal party, dance, etc). Hey, I just got that from my dictionary...and here I thought shindig was another word Joss Whedon created :) the things you learn.

So, since the neighbors are throwing a shindig, I need some music that will keep me awake until the shindig is over.

sigh it's been a slow week...might as well watch another episode of Buffy or maybe Angel, preferrably a Doyle one.

Long week
I don't think I'll like the semester finals from the way the teachers are acting. I mean, they're giving us all this homework so we can review for the tests. Oh, boy...

I'm tired...and kinda bored...

Hey, have you ever seen Angel dubbed in French or Spanish? They have them on the DVDs. Anyway, I did...last night. It was so much fun to hear some of my favorite lines in another language. Tonight I did Firefly and I plan to do Buffy tomorrow.

Anyway, the weather was so crazy this week. Rain, hottness, coldness, windy-ness, and coldness again today.

Oh, yeah, the new Angel (the one where Angel dreamt that Spike turned human) was really funny. Especially the part where Fred started to dissect Angel. A liscence plate...I nearly cracked up at that whole scence (okay, not really. I came close to laughing). And that bear--what was the point of that? It's like the cheeseman in Buffy...no point to him either. And the new Tru Calling was better than last week's. I had no clue the teacher did it with a wrench in the library...actually, he didn't do that (the whole wrench-library part. It turned out that he was the one who killed Candace. That left me really surprised because I thought it was Judy...or the guy that Candace left at the alter on their wedding day.) Also, I gotta admit, there were some funny lines in this episode...like the part where Luc and Harrison decided to crash the reunion party only because Tru didn't want them to go. The way that whole scene played out left me laughing. Oh, the person who wrote this episode also wrote numerous Buffy and Angel episodes. That's kind of neat.

Today, music-wise, was kind of back to the future...I mean, past (Back to the Future...hey! I should watch that in dubbed Spanish!). Mostly, this morning, I listened to Abba (yes, I like them. And yes, I do like 80's bands or 70's bands, mostly. I'm an old-fashioned girl) and now I'm listening to Bruce Hornsby and the Range (because we always listened to it during trips to somewhere.)

Huh
I saw the Buffy unaired pilot last night (downloaded it off the Internet) and let me just say...bad.

I mean, not all of it was bad. There was no music, for one thing. Buffy and Xander were the same (including Giles), but the principal and Willow weren't. While others who saw this unaired pilot is saying the person who played this Willow is bad, I actually found her to be pretty good (with a few exceptions. I mean, some of the parts you just actually cringe at her acting). Plus they were saying how they found her to be slightly overweight. Well, what's wrong with that? I kind of liked the way she looked. Plus, it's good to have variety among a TV show (with the way people look, that is). The library was big...with a staircase and all. Also Jonathan was in this unaired pilot (yay!)

Overall, out of a ten, I give this episode a 7 1/2.
